Happy Birthday, Pat

Patricia Wedel is a poet here on WC. She is a very special lady and I am honored to call her my friend.

Along the Rappahannock River she saunters

her umbrella shielding her porcelain skin from the sun

dried leaves rustle beneath her feet like petticoats on brocade

a thoroughly modern woman

yet she elicits the memory of another century

a different lifetime

her veneration for all living things

an inspiration to many

such a dedicated mother, grandmother, and wife

and I am fortunate to know her as my friend

my very special friend

dear Lydi, I feel like a Peacock spreading my
feathers among eyes of poetry. The art of a lady
with a parasol is defined in gentler times when
mystery was provocative and birdsong was a
symphony of virtues. I am proud to say that
Shakespeare and I were born on April 23,
however, not in the same year. My father loved to read
Shakespeare, and I love to read the poetry of
WritersCafe. Birthdays are a wish for more time
to create rhymes and colors of our heart and soul.
