tonight
the breeze runs its spindly fingers up my legs
sure it's winter, but this is south florida
shorts are the order of the day

the moon's halo has a special luminosity
i find myself staring longingly at it
allowing myself to bask in its glow
because, hey, it lights the way to bliss
right?

i'm not dwelling on past mistakes tonight
just telling myself they were opportunities
i suppose it's like
staring at weeds and pretending they are flowers
or finding the empty bag of chips in the pantry
then being happy i won't gain weight

no i can't change the world
but i can change the color of my nail polish
and that makes me happy enough
let me think bliss is just around the corner
because tonight the moon is telling me that's okay

Your title should be our mantra to life, accepting the moment for what it is, instead of our usual to do list rumbling in the background of our mind, which in itself stops these moments from being truly immersive.
We may only cause the briefest of ripples on the greater scheme of things, but who is to say that these moments were intended to be our greater scheme, where distractions of being interrupted cease to be so important and the moment envelops us.
Apart from the obvious, where your words bring joy and comfort to both reader and owner, adding a little more beauty to the bigger picture, i find the idea of acceptance being found within the maelstrom of being, enchanting and mesmerising, as well as a pretty healthy place to find yiurself in.
It is 7am here, as i sit on the porch in pitch darkness with my coffee, wishing those same sentiments to Mr Moon and Ma Nature... to be free to enjoy such moments and looking forward to their return.
I suppose if it wasnt for work and all the other drudgery modern life insists are compulsory, then maybe we would be bored with these perfect moments and long for a little more chaos in our day...
Or perhaps not.
Your words entice us to see more of these moments for ourselves, and know that its okay we aren't setting the heather on fire, which is just as well because burning heather smells disgusting 😀

Your message is delightfully conversational & conspiratorial. It's like the breath of forgiveness when we can't stay in the steep of whatever's gone wrong (being criticized for head-in-sand approach). I love how your comparisons are a little bit feeble, not convincing, which kinda feels like a nose-thumb to the idea of having to justify a frivolous mood in the first place! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

The overriding theme of this one seems to be perspective. The speaker seems aware that past mistakes have been made, but also seems to conclude there is more than one way to regard them. Several images reflect this theme, but my favorite is "no I can't change the world/ but I can change the color of my nail polish,/ and that makes me happy enough". To all those who may be contemplating suicide, I say, consider this philosophy first.

dearest Lydi... the colors of your nails are flowers you have touched with your poetry.
We had a thin banana moon tonight that is part of a heavenly scheme where stars dance just for you... that’s Okay.

This is truly beautiful, Lydi.

In such a sincere Lilting way, you've taken life and given it a gentle but good shaking.. made promises to yourself. Opened your eyes and gentled into a place where sense is more than taking note of the cerebral. It's feeling your heart and whispering,
] Look at that moon, a dark cloud might cover it any moment but, it will still be there; must always remember that.; What''s precious should always be remembered, yes?

Hope lives, dear friend.

Waving, smiling...
a beautiful full moon can make the end of any day seem okay...
i really like "staring at weeds and pretending they are flowers"---
emptiness never feels good...the more optimistic will imagine there are chips somewhere in that cupboard.
we can't change the world but we can change our own paths...and what we are like under the newest moon.

Yes, we can change our own paths. Some don't realize that. Thank you so much, Jacob. Lydi*
