A Poem by Lydia Shutter

this morning

memories hang heavy in the humid air

tugging at the hem of my culottes

it is july after all

i remember our long ago morning walks on the beach

only now the waves seem to sing your name

without you at my side

i’ve no destination in mind

just wandering and wondering if you know

or if you smile thinking of me as an oma

i imagine your blue eyes twinkling as your smile

lights up my world

the truth is, daddy

your laughter will forever linger

on the sandy shore of my soul

Beautiful tribute for your Daddy Lydi**. Your lines are touching and brought a tear to my eye. It is thirty four years since I lost my own Dad and there is never a day that passes without him filtering into my thoughts. The choice of wording in your final three lines is superb. Lovely poetry.

I remember my grandparent taking me to Belle Isle. I tried to be the same. A wonderful poem for your father. Kind memories. We do need. Thank you, dear friend for sharing the amazing poetry.

No one should experience this feeling... It's heartbreaking. Really heartbreaking. It might be easy for those to judge who haven’t been through this but I feel truly sorry for those who have been through it. I sympathize with them, not out of pity though. I wish you the very best and true happiness in the future.
Live a long life and leave your mark.

~Ayesha

What a compassionate review you left for me, Ayesha. Thank you so much. Lydi**
Your words prove that in the worst times of our lives, beauty and like peace are the emotions that create a gentle blanket and towel: the one to warm, the other to dry our anguish and in total, heal.

You write of a deep emotion that proves once and for all that a loving father is the best example of what can and should be 'the love of one's life'. Such a beautiful poem. My six siblings and I loved and trusted and have never forgotten our daddy/dad - the finest example of what a man can and should be.

You have set a bar that other men should try their darnedest to achieve, most could.. perhaps.. probably.

Your writings of memories of your Dad make the loss of mine surge through me. We were never afforded such moments that would grow more precious with time, but I can appreciate the love of being his daughter that you still embrace.

You are welcome Lydi!
Gone, but they never everleave you, do they Lydi? It just means that they don't sit at the table you set for them and only answer you in dreams but they are always there (how else do you think your tears dry come the morning?)
I remember my dad jokingly once said to listen for the taps and that it would be him sending the next lotto results to me. But it has only been 24 years since he passed so I'm just assuming he's waiting for the next massive roll-over! 😃
Beautifully penned asalways Lydi.
