way back

way back

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

the flowers you planted in my soul
still bloom

the way your eyes undressed me
still entices

i wonder if you know
the aroma of sunscreen still takes me back
way back

and when it does...i smile

Lydia,
Isn't it funny how quick the trip when triggered by the smell, odor, aroma... takes us there at the speed of light so we can take a moment to linger, like we were, like the things were, like the music was, like the look in their eye... It is against all the laws of physics to go back in time, but the roads are so enticing...

Despite the fact that the only time I ever smell suncream is when I'm usually in that place in the world called Abroad, which is short for anywhere but here, I actually love the smell of sun cream and all the smells it brings with it like sun, sand, sea and did I say sun?
Smells are the deepest memories for us pesky humans and all I needed do is smell pipe tobacco and um thinking of my silent grampa, who was only silent through I'll health, but he spoke in bright eyed smiles to us kids.
Isn't it wonderful how a scent can trigger such beautiful memories? I'm actually salivating at the thought of the smell of bacon right now, which is allowed because I'm on holiday and no, it's not weird I've had a bacon sarnie for breakfast for four days in a row!
Buti digress, while sipping my coffee, which is another memory blast in itself. But again I digress... or is it a double digress? ??
Anyhow, smells are great ain't they? Well some of them are but I quintuply digress! 😃
Ooh, my bacon is crispy this morning! 😃

Pull yourself together Lydi. People are watching!!! 😃
The beach and a flood of memories what a beautiful combination.

Sitting by the shore, with the love of our life beside us, letting the waves carry back the moments we once lived that’s the true essence of life.

The shoreline is a special place for inspiring thoughts! Thank you Neha. Lydi**
This poem proves how a sea of emotion can be captured in a few beautiful lines. This is beautiful to read.
And the artwork is to die for.

Welcome back, my friend! 🥀

Thank you for telling me this! Lydi*
love that sun screen dahlink! soft, classy and sensual ... a lot of memories sparked .. real and not so real ;)
I am enjoying just sitting here at the beach ... hot and catching the wafting sunscreen scent on the gentle breezes.

Keep focused on these memories. There is enough bad news currently to last for a long time.

Combined with the picture for this poem, this is a lovely write....:)

Sensual, longing and deeply emotional.....

I love the opening line:

The flowers you planted in my soul.....

and the final line....and when it does, I smile...

Thanks for sharing...

Feel free to stop by and check out one of my poems some time.
