Leave the pain in the past

I can see that you've kept it hidden and sealed,
Until that old wound can be fully healed.
You can't take the risk again with your heart,
You don't want to again go through falling apart.

For years your walls have remained up high,
But because of this, so many wasted years have flown by.
You were a bird, caged and locked away,
But now free, there dawns a brighter day.

Can you accept it and finally heal the pain,
Let it wash over you, like the pouring rain.
You keep it inside, when you want to scream and shout,
Do what you need, you just need to let it all out.

A well rhymed piece here, and one touching a topic that affects many. Some wounds are deep, and never quite heal. The result is a person who fears to start again, unwilling to face new pain. They may feel secure, but in fact they are imprisoned.
