HOMELESS NOT SELFISH!

© Michael Franz Whitby

In downtown Toronto - seated inside the luxury of automotive bliss

Came into sight " a homeless man

With all the standard features

The mismatched shoes

Three layers of pants and possible four shirts

A brand name cap - well worn!

Hair unwashed, for maybe months " beard too long and tangled

When first saw him, he was reaching into the garbage container

He stopped abruptly

Someone had spat into it, so he walked away

Towards at least twenty unopened water bottles

Laid adjacent to the entrance " Toronto’s Sport Centre

Because not everyone attending the overpriced game…

overstood nor understood the entrance rules before game time

One cannot enter the sports venue with anything

Not even bottles of unopened " undisturbed water

So there they laid - at least twenty!

He came upon them!

Bent down and checked around him

Not so much as if he was doing anything wrong

But more like an over scope of…

really don’t’ know, but he did it anyway

As he bent down

He did the most unusual thing

Taking the empty pop cans away, along with the empty cups

From those large outlets that sells overly expensive coffee

He proceeded to line them up " all those unopened water bottles

More to the safety of the wall, like he was protecting them

From those who may feel the urge to kick or stomp them open

Sitting there watching in luxury

Eye contact was never made

He did not care about the presence of those in luxurious settings

He finished the task " taking three for his time and effort

Proceeded to walk towards a bicycle, leaning against a distance wall

Where a cardboard box sat on the frame and handle bar

He placed them within the box and rode off

Remaining in automotive bliss for another ten minutes

As another homeless man came into sight

He bent down to where approximately seventeen laid, taking two and left…

goes to show that one may end up being homeless

But being homeless is not an entitlement by perception of others

Of one being selfish!

“…the how in kindness translates to…

the how in sharing - the how in how for unselfish reasons”

reversing forward, future is history!
