Chapter (4) I SAW A TREE

Chapter (4) I SAW A TREE

A Chapter by MAD ENGLISHMAN

I SAW A TREE

A tall tree stands straight and strong,

A century or more in this place.

A developer sees the tree and imagines it gone,

He sees houses in the space.

A merchant looks at the tree and works out

what percentage he can take,

A carpenter looks at the tree and imagines the

furniture he can make.

A boy sees the tree and imagines a swing,

A bird sees the tree as somewhere to sing.

The Bear sees the tree and sharpens his claw,

and all of this from a tree that I saw.
