A Poem by Madeline

I stand on the shore of this lake
Hesitating to make my move
Watching others brave chilly waves
I feel I have something to prove.

As I maneuver to the edge
I dip one toe to test the cold
The shock spreads through my body
And causes me to become bold.

As I wade into shallows
A sense of pride pervades my mind
Though I continue to shiver
I start to leave my fears behind.

The water is up to my knees
I have gone deeper than I planned
Happy with the success I've had
I return once more to the land.

I begin to miss the water
Out to the lake I go once more
The water is more comforting
Than the land ever was before.

Will I attempt to plunge deeper
Into the mysteries of the lake?
I believe I will continue
I hope this isn't a mistake.
