Silence of the EarthA Poem by MaddiHow humanity is destroying the earth.Falling blossoms like ashy snow, Singed, smoked; drifting gently. The sky a pane of glass, ready to break Under heavy, steel hammers. Cities: Past, Present, Future. Glower in the distance like glinting jems. Cars excrete a sliver mist, a fine cloud Of gauzy, velvety, greyness. Numbing greyness. Trees pulled from the ground, roots in the air. Their souls unearthed. A north-wind whispers among the deadened leaves- Of landfills, mass graves for the waste of man. Unlived forests long deserted. The wind is silent for a minute. The dust settles. And the northerly wind is off again. Spreading the news of the silent earth. © 2016 MaddiFeatured Review
