hero park

A Poem by Marcus Mckenzie

politicians ruin everything;
their touch prematurely ages

the world, the words

anything they extol the virtues of

popes, presidents and caliphs thrive
on misplaced veneration while we die
taught only to recognise as true
false dichotomies
and the un-choice between

the sweet, stupid, child-like belief that
gluing gold glitter on
makes anything instantly great

~or~

the sick, stupid, self-righteous belief that
problems doused in kerosene and set ablaze
always go away

vocabularies hindered, hamstrung, undone
by the buzzword or catchphrase of the day

orwell's newspeak and doublespeak combine
speech and presentation becomes trite
like a ruminant's cud
