blood moon

blood moon

A Poem by Marcus Mckenzie

earthshadowslanted
and the virgin bled

i stood transfixed
free from superstition

the notion of an ill omen was eclipsed
by the wonder of a blood moon

somewhere
someone watched
as the moon disappeared
but she never abandoned my skies,
she only shyly blushed

i stood small and without pride
grateful and mystified
at how capricious circumstance
could put me in this place
to wonder if each beauty seeks out
the eye of its most suitable beholder
or if history is a daisy chain
of random accidents
