what you thought you wanted, you got

acceptance, a place among fellows

but paying the dues to join that club
comes at a terrible cost
you might've asked former members,
except
you're gone, and so are they

ensconced in a morbid pantheon
of sad, modern day monsters

suicide might be forgiven

empathy or, at the very least,
sympathy might be extended
for just another anonymous bleeder
left alone too long in thought

cast aside

ridiculed

these torments might resonate

your legacy though, will be
confusion, anger and grief
indicted by the selfish need
for some sort of retribution
against an enemy you couldn't see
