Death Came By YesterdayA Poem by marisa starkiliciousJust an ordinary day with Death.Death came by yesterday I told him to take off his shoes He placed them by the door While I put a pot on the stove. I asked,” What brings you by, old friend?” And he told me,” It has been a while.” So we sat on the couch And shared some conversation. He’d been busy, he said The stress had been building up And I laughed, because he never spoke like this “You’re just getting soft, is all.” Yes, it was an ordinary day with Death So I turned on the telly and we watched cartoons We didn’t talk for a while Until the pot whistled at me And Death politely offered to pour the tea I said,” I’ve missed your company.” Death came by today I told him to take off his shoes But he only looked at me with hollow eyes With one last shudder, I started to cry He held my hand like an old friend Outside, I breathed fresh air for the first time © 2010 marisa starkiliciousAuthor's Note
