We Are Aware

A villanelle, mimicking the same form of Dylan Thomas' 'Do Not Go Gentle...'. my most satisfying poem which has been published.

It is all going wrong and my heart breaks,
The world is turning into a nightmare.
The lights go out, but we are still awake.

Rivers run toxic through valleys to lakes;
Fish to the surface, gasping hard for air.
It is all going wrong and my heart breaks.

Fires rage and the creatures of forests bake;
Man has made disaster for all to share.
The lights go out, but we are still awake.

The wind blows smoke through the trees it shakes;
Clouds cover the light at which we all stare.
It is all going wrong and my heart breaks.

And the Earth, in repentance, starts to quake,
Swallowing it’s pain. Nature in despair.
The lights go out, but we are still awake.

And man seems unaware of his mistakes,
Going about his day without a care.
It is all going wrong and my heart breaks,

Congrats on the publication. I did like this one...the flow was nice, and the imagery was both gritty and passionate, leading me to a place where I could really "feel" what it was you were trying to convey. A well crafted "formed" piece of poetry is not something easily come-by, so I appreciated the art that went in to crafting this one. Nicely done.
