My Bradford Pear

My Bradford Pear

A Poem by Maxwell Ryder

Every year
My
Bradford pear
Sheds her
Stinky
Virgin-
White
Canopy
On the corner
Of Elm
And Osage,
Doucheing
herself
green,
Prepping
For
Summer’s
Long
Sultry
Lust-filled
nights
Of rollicking
Wind
And summer
Breeze.

This is so freakin' original! I'm stunned at the way you weave this affectionate rant that starts out a little grouchy & then grows more & more intensely voluptuous. The details you include feel like secret signposts that can only be seen by the narrator, some nearby corner, plus I love the highly sensual rollicking toward the end, reminding of some tree where magic touched our own lives (((HUGS))) Fondly Margie

it sort of makes me think of how we come out of a long winter in which we become bored and snippy and then feeling the spring and friskiness it brings.

I think this poem has lots of significant meaning. I am not sure what the references refer to, but I am sure they have deep significance. But, simply reading it, is a pleasure ... it rolls off the tongue beautifully!

Aunt Astri, yes. I grew up with this tree. As she grew to adulthood. At first, I didn’t think much.. read more
