Adestrus Manifestus

A Stage Play by winter;lyra
"

There should be a "Other" type when selecting type of writing... Let it be a stage play

"
Twelve preachers
Twelve teachers
Twelve philosophers
Compose the chosen audience
To compose the last assembly

Between the sages and the nude man
Pages of holy text are scattered
In cascading circles from the center

They wait
Patiently
Once the sun vertically aligns
With the center
The man shall speak

His eyes are shut
-Serene-
In front of him
A dagger swims in a golden grail

They have waited

~Adestrus Manifestus~

I welcome all to my palace
Today, all solace and menace shall converge
And give light to truth or the knowledge of it

I welcome all of you
Who are masters of intellect
Who shall assist my thesis on this deathbed
And hopefully, spread it after my death
I am truly
Honored
Now
Let us dissect the first premise

My name is Adestrus
Born a commoner
Risen a scholar
Carefully threaded
Modestly followed

Honestly lead
Vigilant to all wrong
Blind to all judgment
All debts settled
All cells dodged
And if excluded these cancerous cells
No complaints to be added

Warlord
Sage Master
Prophet
How many great names have I been addressed with?
Let us not digress

Let us dissect the second premise

A man
Is born free of any form of oppression
Free of indumentary
Free of intelligence
Free of wealth
Free of morals
Free of all
If not the mother's care
To then seek the stature of a "Free Man"
And here we are
All of us
Free men
But we are forced to bend
Before pettiness
Such as riches
Such as the the mistresses' whims
Such as these unknown pages
That have inspired yet not guided me
Such as all that my current timeline does not allow me to present
Such as all that I know you are aware of

What has changed?
Have we not gained as much as we have lost?
By the world's truth
By nature's essence
Have we not been led astray compared to those we call barbarians?
What identity is this that requires falsehood in order to protect your loved ones?
What are we?
And for what are we?
Why do we follow abstract and subjective idols?
My brothers
It is comfort
It is safe to stay in a cage would you not agree?
And if not, would you explain the need to lock your doors?
No
Although those ends differ, their roots are but one if not
Two concrete ideas that are the base of our society
Family and it's safety
If not empathy
A year spent in studying all conflicts in our history
Will bring anyone to the point that
These are also the root of all "evil"
Bringing me, to the point that, our society is a fallacy as it originates the problems it tries to eliminate
Rendering the, comfortable, idea that this way of life
Is the one right path that one should walk
-Inconsistent

Why do we suppose life is supposed to be run in peace?
Why do we vilify struggle?
Is all knowledge not obtained through struggle?
As it is not provided
But unveiled by our trained minds?
Was this land not obtained through bloodshed?
Pardon me the rhetoric virtue of this funeral
It is urgent to initiate the revolution

And with my third, and simplest premise
Fact as it is
That I embrace this death
I conclude that
Death
(That one aspect in our lives that presents no fallacy)
Is the pinnacle of life and it's knowledge
Death is the climax of existence
Death is the meaning of life
The ultimate burst of pleasure in solitude
To unbind every shackle and earthly bond
I've began to rise
I see the stars eye to eye every time I close my tired ones
And that is all because I stand atop the shelf of my vast and cultivated intellect
Had I not sought
Had I not questioned...
I lust!
Oh!
How I lust! A sin it is! It can only be a sin this monstrous lust for more!
Is it the sensation of living a fulfilled life?!
The sensation of living by my own beliefs?!
Oh I am revolted by this finding yet I love it!

My brothers
Pardon my arrogance...
I will take your silence as understanding

A dagger is taken from the grail

I have fulfilled my role
I do not fear
For I have not lived the life of a coward
Whatever awaits me
I am excited to embrace it

Eyes shut
Guts poured
All their eyes stuck
All the pages drenched
In blood
Adestrus died with a smile

Author's Note

Some time ago, I did an experiment named "The Journey of the Wise Man", poetic-prose-like, which I did not like very much due to the rules I had to follow, but it gave me an idea of what I actually wanted to do - something like this - "I love dialog, get the hell outta here narrator, you're boring me I don't give a single damn about how the house looks like"

After (quite a few) reads the ebullience of this one really sinks in Winter.
It does feel like a visit to the theatre to watch a Royal Shakespearean bringing this to life (and to death).
The character isn't unlikeable - a bit pompuous but that's okay since he's pre-suicide posturing and obviously off his nut. If Caesar hadn't been turned into a teabag I would have liked to see him go out this way - with crazed diginity.
I enjoyed this very much my friend.

Quite magnificent. I am astounded with the lyrical literacy here. The format is just right. You are quite right this should be exclaimed and expounded with vigour and verve to an audience.
The atmosphere this engenders is quite palpable.
