that one night i slept with the pelican

that one night i slept with the pelican

A Poem by winter;lyra

i slept with this pelican i just met
under his wings and the ten bottles of rum,
atop his crap infested nest,
i sent a query to the nightly stars
to which they found me impertinent,
treacherous adulterous

to this my companion awoke
i feared this, he questioned me
who had i been talking to
he shouted and spread his wings wide
menacing
the pelican stroke and choked me
then he told me:

"beware the cosmopolitan vampire
redefining the bonfire
watch me fly or scatter
understand, pretend, or find a deadlier poison"

then he flew away and never came back
