Soaked

Soaked

A Poem by Meghan.E

She promised me she would return,

a promise I willed her to keep

though we all always knew she was meant to leave.

Have you ever said goodbye to the one person you have

ever truly been able to call 'best friend'?

I have and it is the worst fathomable pain.

Her apologies are repetitive;

"I broke my promise, I'm sorry"

I hear over, and over in my head.

I tell her it is okay,

she had to do it and

of course I know that.

But do I?

I tell her,

"I need, you, oh I need you so badly."

She interrupts, "No, you don't"

She always was great at interrupting me.

I continue,

"As much as I need you here,

I don't want you. Because I want you to be

where you need to be. And with me is not

where you need to be."

So, I lay in bed, each night

dreaming,

wishing,

watching upon those stars that are above.

Come back,

so the salt in my skin can

at last be dried
