I Sleep Tight

I Sleep Tight

A Poem by Meghan.E

I pull up the covers

and curl down into the mattress

my pillow hosts my heavy head

as the single tear falls again

he says 'sleep tight'

I intend to

because what does that mean, anyway?

For me, because I have been jaded,

hurt,

used,

and forgotten, I do sleep tight

I sleep so tight, even my dreams

stay far away

I curl into a ball of sleep,

my final prayer to wake up

free

while I sleep, I am haunted

so, I huddle closer to myself

because I have become

my own shield.
