Defended

Defended

A Poem by Meghan.E

Faith, hope, and love.

We are told that the greatest

of these is love.

But I see one more virtue;

trust.

Nothing is possible without

trust.

As young children, we were told

of the people we could always

trust in.

For me, you were high on the list.

I didn't know why, but I did

know it was "right".

I have never been closer to a family

member besides your sister,

my mother.

The allegations came on strong

but I stood by you, even when

you were oblivious.

Nobody believed your alibies,

except me.

Trust, right?

With time, the accusations

grew in number, detail, and support.

Addiction, affair, what next?

I am trying to love you as

I used to

but another word comes to mind;

manipulation.

You feared another lecture

so called me and

used me to go on

more binges.

I am caught in fire,

blood, fear, and

anger.

I pray high above that

you will fix your wrong

but I know you see no wrong.

My tears mean nothing;

do nothing.

What happened to you?

How did you get this way?

Why did you bring me into it?

I hate who you've become.

I want you back,

not the lying,

cheating, sick,

monster I've seen.

Don't do it for me,

for your husband, or

even for your children.

Do it for you.

I want you back,

after all.
