Hope

Hope

A Poem by Mena

Bridges are burning as I run towards the last one standing.

I see you there,

on the other side;
you look sad,

lonely.

I scream your name,

but you can’t hear me.

oh, how sad you seem.

You start to turn around,

looking back,
the fire make your tears shine.

I don’t have much time left,

the fire is starting to spread,
I get on the bridge and run to you.

The fire is getting to me,
the bridge is about to fall,

I jump;

you take my hand,

my body hanging from the cliff.

I can see the shinning of your tears,
I can see the sorrow in your face,

I try to reach up but I’m too weak.

I call out your name,

but it’s as if you can’t hear me,
as if I’m not there.

I can only hope

that you’ll hold on to me;
hope

that you’ll realize I’m there;
hope

that my strength will come back,

and help me reach you.

So hold me,
just hold me,
and don’t let go.
