Liberty in a liberal ads town

The hardest part
Of working as a pizza prep boy
Wasn't trading tickets with angry immigrants,
Sweating in a cheese scented sauna,
Or caring for call-ins
(telephones ever crying on the wall)
Or doctoring last minute mistakes made by
Inconsistent, indecisive, impatient patrons.

But looking through the glass,
Of my summertime storefront,
& watching college girls pass,
On their way to class,
Wearing breezy dresses and smiles,
With books in one arm,
Like lady liberty
On her days off.

Thanks Debbie. I've always had a hard time articulating that feeling of being crushed by work. Not by the load of it, but by the oppressive weight of waiting for your life to improve at $5.50 an hour (which I was being paid then).
