Another Mile to RunA Poem by Michael FernandezThe
cold air entered my weaken lungs, Quick
and without hesitation, Like
a murderer and his bloodlust, The
warmth of my own breath, Escaped
into the murderous clutches of death, But
I knew it was not over, Not
even close, As
the green leaves of spring, Decay
into the fiery ones of fall, I
knew I had a long way to go, Such
a long way, As
the fires of nature’s Phoenix, Fades
into the resting branches of winter, I
knew it would require one final effort, One
final push, As
the snow melts to reveal the life among the dead, And
the beautiful green takes ahold once more, I
knew, I
knew I had another mile to run. © 2012 Michael Fernandez |
