A Summer with YouA Poem by Michael KikleThis is a poem I had written many, many years previously, to a girl that I lost. We were supposed to meet for the very first time, but it never happened. Sounds sappy, but the poem is heartfelt. The time has come- I have arrived. I see that smile, And twinkle in your eye.
It may be a tear, Born from joy. I feel my eyes water After hearing your voice.
Your mouth hung open, I look into your eyes, And here you come running, Ready to cry.
I feel your arms Locked ‘round my neck. Your face buried in my shoulder- I feel every breath.
That smile you give me, Which the sun makes brighter, Makes everything better And my stress much lighter.
“Come now,” you say, And I begin to follow. You pull me toward the family Whose hearts are not hollow.
At the moment, I sit and stir in my room, Praying that this coming summer Will get here soon. © 2014 Michael KikleFeatured Review
