An Innkeeper sits down to tell his life story...

An old man in a tavern

At the end of day

Tells his life story

A story to be made

Chronicler’s pen etching

Every word in ink

Stories of the Chandrian

Tales of disbelief

 

Castle made of stone where one only wished to learn

He traveled all alone, not whispering a word

Seeking revenge for fire in his heart

Calling on the true names of wind in the far

 

This is the tale of sorrow

Song of the Wise Man be told

In spite of trying

The life he left behind long ago

 

The Cthaeh has spoken

To him, but all alone

He wept for every loved one

From what dark he had known

Sitting in the tall tree

Telling what’s foreseen:

World is ending, in silent dreams

 

Now his life’s a memory

Remembrance of a day

When young Kvothe had everything

In a life he could have gave

All lost and put away

Locked it in a chest

Sitting in the Inn

Author's Note

This is supposed to have a sort of Irish melody with it, like that a sailor might sing out at sea. I wrote this all after reading the two books: Name of the Wind and Wise Man's Fear, which are great. So, if any of you have read them then I hope you like this. If not, then I hope it's a pleasing and intriguing story. Cheers!

You brought the reader on a great journey with this one, I enjoyed the storytelling aspect of this poem. Someone seeing an inkeeper in a setting fitting for the story might assume that he had no past, had simply lived in the tavern. Great story you've given the inkeeper. I could kinda hear the Irish lilt to it.

"Chandrian"- what does that mean? I tried to look it up, but nothing came up. It doesn't really matter, because I get the gist and the feeling without actually knowing the definition.

I like this sort of thing a lot. I think that to go more with the Irish melody thing some of the pictures of the man need to be a little more solid, if you know what I mean. When I listen to old Irish songs I can see the highway men and get a glimpse of their personalities or whatever... I think that you could twist some of this so that we have a clearer picture of where this lonely type of man has been.
