Walking The Dog

Walking The Dog

A Poem by Mick Burke
"

This is where most of my poems come from.

"

A mild May evening, the sun getting low,

I take the dog for a walk, he's raring to go.

He's cooped up all day, can't wait to get out,

And explore the world with his inquisitive snout.

Work was a pain, a shambles, a mess,

A dog walk's the best way I know to de-stress.

The sun sinks lower, the sky turning red,

I walk 'round the park, writing rhymes in my head.

Some familiar faces I meet on the way,

The people that walk at this time every day.

I don't know their names, who they are, what they do,

Yet we nod to each other, say “Hello, how are you?”

As I get nearer home it's getting quite dark,

My canine companion gives a satisfied bark.

I come in, get my pen, and sit down to write,

What came into my head while out walking tonight.

When some people want to write they go into a quiet room or put on some music. I take the dog for a walk.

Thanks Andrew.
I don't have a dog to walk, but I walk by myself, and that really helps me to write.

Thanks for reading Marie. Out in the fresh air is a great place to get inside your own head.
