December

December

A Poem by Lost in Wonderland

Standing on the beach, Distant

But not really alone,

I watch the long brewing storm roll in.

For years the thunder had been

Just past the horizon

So I could ignore it with a child’s

Ignorant bliss.

But I am older now,

And the world deems me ready to see

The sun hurrying down,

Hiding from the dark, oppressive clouds.

It rains ruthlessness and resentment

In a harsh down pour of tears.

While Wind whips up vile words

The bite and rip and tear.

There are no survivors,

Just a quiet, forced surrender,

Because now I will always know

The truth I call December.

Author's Note

Lost in Wonderland
I whitnessed a fight between family members on Christmas morning when I was 12. Sort of affected me. That's all I'll say 'cause it's family buisness. Hope you like it, God bless.

Life is harsh sometimes. You just gotta wait out the storm and hope for the clouds to break.

Yep, that's true
A emotionally-harrowing work. I love the use of weather as a metaphor for growing into the weariness of adulthood and the loss of the naivety of our childhood

OMG this poem is awesome! it's so deep and "There are no survivors,
Just a quiet, forced surrender" made me feel epic. it also has a really cool vibe like something horrible just happened.

I can only say that I had a similar situation a few years ago, and like you it has stuck with me...this is a coming-of-age story in the purest sense...ironically though, December has always been and always will be one of my favourite months simply cuz it's usually my most creative, though I guess that makes sense with regards to the aforementioned point...needless to say I relate to this very much...great piece, and I wish you a better December this year :)

Haha I second that my friend...always a pleasure :)
Using December (12th month) as a metaphor for what you say you experienced at 12 years old was quite clever. Altogether, the theme of growing up and recognizing the storm on the horizon for what it is is a good lesson. Well done.
