The Land of Never Knowing

Long ago in the Land of Never Knowing lived a man who, for some reason or other, knew very, very little. Furthermore, he didn't care to know more either, and for that he became very misinformed.

And also for that reason, the place where he lived became known as the Land of Never Knowing.

In this land there was not much worth knowing that would be worthwhile knowing.

The people who also lived in this place knew nothing either, for there was nothing to know.

What a strange place it was to be.

In this Land of Never Knowing nobody asked any questions for there was nobody who knew any of the answers. Citizens of this place could not even tell you were they lived.

The man who first came to this Land of Never Knowing decided on his own that a law should be passed.

And so a law was passed.

The law stated that it be against the law for anybody, citizen, or whatever, should know, or profess to know, anything.

Knowing, or even the thought of knowing, had become a crime.

Breakers of the law were banished for life.

A problem arose when it was discovered that knowing the law was a form of knowing, and all who knew the law must be banished.

Before long ALL were banished, including the man who had first come to the Land of Never Knowing.

The land became wild and uninhabited.

Before anyone had realized it, over 100 years had passed.

The man and his one law, and the Land of Never Knowing were forgotten forever.

I can tell you of this because I have been to the Land of Never Knowing, and I can not tell you anything about it. It's as if being there wiped my mind clean of any detail.

I can not even be certain I was there.

Somewhere out there exist a place of never knowing. Have you been there?

Appropriate for these times, as we see what seems to be a war on smart people. Attacks on universities, re-writing history, replacing facts with lies--how on earth did we get here? I am not asleep and oblivious to my surroundings, therefore I must be "woke"? What a stupid bastardization of that word. You write a fine little tale that makes one think.
