A Something That Makes Something Absolutely No Sense

Saturday wasn't any different.

What,” I imagine, “are you thinking?” I thought.

Oh yes, I can tell what thoughts you are having.

Is he a mad man starting out the way he did?”

The truth of the matter is yes. Yes, I am quite mad. Nobody knows it yet, except for you.

As for the matter of Saturday, it truly wasn't any different from the day before except, it was Saturday and not Friday.

The sun rose from the east, the skies were cloudless, the summer heat beat down upon me, it was just like yesterday.

Today,” I concluded, “is no different than yesterday.”

There's a cricket hiding out somewhere in the corner of the room. He was there yesterday singing the same song.

I searched and searched, and, just like yesterday, I could not locate the little critter.

Who is out of their mind now?

So, the girl left.

Yes, I know what you're thinking. Remember, I can read your thoughts.

Oh no, another pathetic story about some guy and some girl and some broken heart and some something else, whatever that might be.

Remember this if you will, all you two legged bipeds, only a mad man can contrive such incompetent forms of thinking as this.

Are you lost yet? You should be. I am.

She's gone forever.

The girl ran off with some drug guy. He was a pharmacist.

They sailed south to Patagonia. I always wanted to go to Patagonia.

It's pretty cold there most times and they have penguins.

I'm not really a fan of penguins. I can't even spell penguins. Thank goodness for spell check.

Penguins make a lot of noise.

I met a girl last night who had been to Patagonia.

What are the odds?

Of all the gin joints and...oh, wait, that's another story.

The girl I met, whose name is a secret for now, said there isn't much to do down there except collect wood for making a fire.

Without fire,” she said, “you freeze.

I suppose I'll meet her again tonight, since today is just like yesterday.

Maybe this time I'll change things up.

Maybe I'll ask her out for a date.

That could be interesting.

What if I mess up the entire flow of everything being the same?

Will there be a cataclysmic event of global proportion?

I rather doubt it.

I should,” I thought.

I should ask her out just to see what transpires next.”

She could only say no, or yes, and perhaps, maybe.

Whatever happens I'm sure the world won't end, I don't think.

If the world were to end because of it, well, we were all going to die anyway so what difference does it make?

I'm not afraid of dying, but I would like to live longer than just a few more hours.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not dying of any natural causes anytime soon, at least, not that I'm aware of.

You probably wish I were.

It would certainly put an end to all this nonsense.

Now that would be something.

The girl's name is Zoe.

So much for secrets.

You would think I would be torn apart by the loss of my other girlfriend, the one who ran off with a drug guy to Patagonia.

The truth is, I'm glad she's gone. She was mean. I think she had vampire fangs.

Zoe is pretty nice, at least, for now.

She has a tattoo on her left shoulder. It looks like a snake. Her hair is short and multicolored. I think she used to be a blonde. She has painted her finger nails all different colors with no specific pattern in mind. There seemed to be no sort of scheme to her theme set. If there were a theme it would be chaos.

She bought me a couple of beers last night and we dance slowly for a couple of hours.

Later she vanished into a thick fog of cigarette smoke.

I'll go back to that place tonight. Maybe this time things will be different.

Maybe we could be something together.

The more I thought about it the more I realized how different we are. We have so very little in common.

Maybe the two of us getting together is a terrible idea.

She is a wild creature from another world.

I am quite mild and conservative. I never take chances, and I never break rules.

A real bore is what I am.

But upon thinking further, it would be interesting to step outside my little zone of comfort.

I will go tonight just to see what happens.

Also to see if the world will come to some cataclysmic end because I have changed the course of events from yesterday and today, which is Saturday, not Friday.

Good luck! Keep us posted. I suppose we'll all know if the world does indeed come to an end. In which case, "Thanks a lot, Lyle. Way to play dice with our existence!"
