An Open And Shut Case

Lasers, Your Eyes.

Scratching lines, ink on paper:
Circles, shadows, cast a spell –
Cast a cage around my heart:
Build back the walls,
Bring back cozy comfort,
Restore my shattered shell.

Lasers-
Your eyes are pale blue lasers.
I can’t hide!
Locked on –
Steady beams burn through,
Slice this shell apart,
Break out the chill heart
I keep safe inside.

I stare into your solar source,
Two pale blue suns.
Going blind…
Can’t look away!
A blink and
You’re gone.

More ink, another page,
A sigil calls your name:
Play games with my mind,
My time and attention.

Close my eyes, I still see
Yours in my memory,
Afterburned images
Seared onto retinas:
Pale blue
Lasers, Your eyes.

Strange little piece that reminds me of Cyclops from the X-Men. Okay. I'm a nerd, I know. But you know-- he had lasers for his eyes (but they were red).

Seriously though, let's get down to this literary business. I thought the poem was good though I felt it lacking in other description besides the eyes. I know that the subject is the eyes like lasers, but I wish that I could have seen more in the way of description of this person.

You always are quite intelligent with your writing, so I will give you that. You're no amateur. Perhaps just a little more person-specific imagery and this piece would be quite nice.

I read this awhile back and was digesting it ... then time steals the memory and I forgot to share with you. The symbols and metaphors are great. The piece flowed through my head bringing different images to mind. Good work.
