Blood and SkinA Poem by Molly Cara
I. The performer curls himself around the
subway pole like he’s a vine of ivy. Some of the captive audience clap and others turn their heads. II. On the beach there’s a freak show that features a man with skin like elastic, a girl who eats fire, and a woman you can slice with a sword as many times as you like; she will not split for the blade. She knows that blood and skin make poor clothing for a soul, which would rather be wrapped in soil like a root, and sprawled out for miles underground. © 2013 Molly Cara |
