The Promise of a New Day

Towers of light shine forth

breaching the far horizon
as the false morning fades

The rooster’s strutting crow
proud, confident cockerel
boldly greets the new morn

A thoughtful soul’s witness
revels in blissful solitude
under a painted morning sky

As the lone nightingale’s song
gives way to sweet warbling
of the robins’ sunrise chorus

Life turns from the moon’s face
to the dawning face of the sun
and the promise of a new day
