Choose Love

Hate is the executioner’s guillotine severing hope

From shadowed hollows
Hate snatches peace
by a thousand cuts
circling, baleful, lashing
ravaging hope
smaller and smaller of mind
shrinking desperate souls

Desperate angry souls
dragging us all down
compassionless
betraying hope

Inhumanity slays humanity
calling it ‘fighting for peace’
the greedy burn the world
and call it ‘progress’
The lawless man you elected king
breaks the world and says
‘I alone can fix it.’

When lawlessness rules
greed is virtue
power’s for sale
and peace is betrayed

But Love…
Love is a promise
enduring and expansive
transcends mere emotion
Love circles the world
and flies back to us
a hundredfold

It honors
it cherishes
it chooses
it expands to include us all

Love is an embrace that returns as a gift to ourselves
