The Choice of Fear

The Choice of Fear

A Poem by Engineering Bolts
"

Trust over fear

"

If I trusted myself fully,
How freeing that would be.
Instead, I choose fear.
Or, more accurately, it chooses me.

Why would I choose this?
To remain afraid and alone,
Rather stagnant, unmoving"
It’s all I’ve ever known.

But to trust myself?
How could I possibly?
I’m an unreliable narrator.
I don’t make choices responsibly.

Trust seems not only foolish,
But absolutely terrifying.
How free that must feel"
Almost like flying.

Even without the fear,
I don’t know how to begin.
Where do I start?
Why can’t I let myself win?
