beauty puts a stop to revolution

insists on stillness, contemplation

the quiet of the eye.

Beauty consoles us

in the manner of a well-bred courtesan

whispering her admiration

of our good taste.

Beauty glances back at us

as she bathes in our appraisal

starts at our infringement

wonders at her own arrangement

and if vision come to rest

on birthing eyes, on zephyr's breath  

does beauty then offer reasons

or but a coupling with the pleasure of our gaze?
