Dysfunctional

I no longer want to be

a thread in the tapestry
of this society.
I want to wiggle my
stringy self out
and be free.
I'm pretty sure the picture
could still be complete
without me.

I want to break that needle
off of the syringe
that society uses to
give itself false hope--
shooting itself up with
lies, and delusions,
and other sinful dope.

I want to use that needle
to sew my body back
together with my soul,
so I finally can
once again feel alive,
and free, and whole.

And then I'm going to hide away,
deep inside my own madness
because that's the only way I know
to forget this dead world's sadness.
