A way with each other
That without words
My heart speaks
You hear it
You hear me
It was beyond attraction
For we knew that was temporary
There was no burning desire
For fire doesn't last when there's nothing to burn
We flowed naturally
Like the water
How the water always moves
Back and forth
Give and give
Not give and take
Nothing to rush
We understood this
Calming
Peace
Two minds
Two hearts
And the water within us
Fire and water are both essential for us mere humans and I was going to day where would we be without them, but in the case of water that answer would be extent!
But they are both too part of the nature and rhythm of life, as well as an excellent springboard for another essential ingredient of life, love.
Now the obvious next question would be where would we be without love, but that isnt even worth thinking about, especially on such a cold and wet autumnal day thats doing an excellent impression of a winters day. So just you light a fire and snuggle up with your loved one and pretend your cavepeople at a campfire and get all tribal on their a*s! 😀

There’s such a gentle serenity in your poem, Kady. I love how you capture love as a flowing, patient presence..a conversation of hearts without words, moving naturally like water.
The contrast between fleeting fire and enduring water is beautifully drawn, and your lines carry a quiet wisdom about connection, reciprocity, and calm intimacy.
For me, Water speaks most to my heart. Its quiet flow, its patience and reflection, mirrors the rhythms I find in life, love, and memory.

Thank you for your compliments about this poem. In my earlier years I preferred a firey love but now I'm desiring a water type love as well. I love the gentle flow of water. Thanks for your insight and your review.
Kady, hello.
This reads like a quiet river carrying the weight of everything that doesn’t need to be said... the patience, the ebb and flow, the peace of a love that doesn’t rush or burn out.
“Not give and take / Nothing to rush” really struck me....it’s rare to see love described as something so naturally sustaining, almost elemental. As for your Author's note: hmm.. personally, I think I might be a bit of both...madness and mercy, chaos and calm..
Beautiful work.

Fire and water are apt images for human emotions and relationships. Fire is exciting and full of heat, but it will burn out sooner or later, leaving only ashes. Water is cool and soothing and flows eventually to the sea. I'll put my betting money there.
