Alcohol

Alcohol

A Poem by The Elusive Mr Dunne (Mr Dunne Poetry)

"Alcohol"
(Royce da 5'9 'Cocaine' Remix)

Mumma loved alcohol, more than she loved me/
So my heart it turned cold, cause I felt so ugly
I wish she would hug me, like she can hold her drink/
Inside I'm always lonely, but my ship will never sink,
Like those who've turned to drink.
Alcohol, Alcohol, Alcoholllllll!!!

It was eighteen years, before I got to meet my mum/
Everyday I was crying tears, cause that woman was a drunk
I was in love with my mother, but she never loved her son/
I was angry at my daddy, cause this is what my daddy done
Alcohol, Alcohol, Alcoholllllll!!!

Nearly forty years of drinking, and my mummy got ill/
All the while got me thinking, what am I supposed to feel
They got her at the doctors, and the hospital for pills/
I just hope she finds peace, like I did with Hip-hop & these skills
Thanks to Alcohol, Alcohol, Alcoholllllll!!!

Alcohol, such a curse and yet you tackle it in a way which is lyrical and takes some of the sting out of a really serious subject. Great rhythm and rhyme here. Rattles along nicely.

I know only too well the danage that alcohol can inflict. It is very close to home .I have raised my three grandchildren because of it. Used unwisely it can have tragic consequences. If this is your story, I am truly sorry.

This is a tough read because there's a terrible cruel story packed into those those 16 lines. Also it is a story that is very common, sadly. But most people who suffer from it never manage to write about it like this. That liquid legal high is a ruinous feature in so many lives.

An interesting poem about dependance, having and doing without. --- And like this poem, it never has a sweet ending.

Eh, the devil's in the drink. As this clearly shows. Drink killed my father. Me? I took refuge in the road and in Nature. Didn't know who I was, so I took a journey. Found my calling in poetry. Tough words well written.

I enjoyed this, it read a lot like lyrics and flowed really well, a tough topic to write about but handled in a positive manner and with what appears a positive outcome, nicely done.
