Die In My Prayers

Die In My Prayers

A Poem by The Elusive Mr Dunne (Mr Dunne Poetry)

"Die In My Prayers"

I've never had much, but what I had I've lost/
My heart turned cold, then the cold turned to frost
The frost turned to ice, and iced up my eyes/
Lonely on the inside, I walked around blind
People talked their advice, but I couldn't hear what they said/
Cause walking the darkside, I could talk with the dead
All the thoughts in my head, had me thinking pure evil/
Premeditated steps, to the removal of people
Who I felt did me wrong, never belonging I roamed/
So many years crying tears, yet clinging to hope
Cause it's all that I had, that an a pad and a pen/
Now it all seems sad, but it mattered back then
So I'd never change back then, and I ain't mad at them/
Payback was in pen, and it weren't an accident
Step by step, I've climbed these stairs/
So when I breathe my last breath, I'll die in my prayers.

Even if you are on the dark side, as you were, unable to hear or speak to others; your angst had taken over; but you still had you pen and ink, which probably saved you for doing something terrible...and you still had hope too. Looking back on this black period, I wouldn't change it, but now I am able to see the light; I have moved on; I guess that taught me a lesson.
Best, B

(Step by step, I've climbed these stairs so when I breathe my last breath, I'll die in my prayers.) What a beautiful write!

Initial thoughts: reminds me of a cross between Dylan Thomas and Gangsta rap.
Dark, faintly violent. Makes me think of a spoken word video on YouTube.
Such are the impressions of a half educated hillbilly.
