Morning Brew

Morning Brew

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers
"

...the chaos of morning

"

Morning Brew

Wide  awake ,

to splash warm water

in my face

to stumble upon

three cats in the hall,

to find a body

warm and small

curled up within

a fetal position

sound asleep,

oblivious to

the smell of coffee

that warms my face

and puts me in

a complaisant mood,

to catch the garbage men in time

to pack the lunches

and iron the clothes

and wipe the nose

that’s running, still.

Morning brew,

i need a few

cups of coffee before noon,

cartoons blaring on the tv

crumbs all scattered

on the floor,

baby’s crying

reminding me

i’m not single, anymore.

Quick typo correction: “complacent”

But yes, this so well encapsulates the chaos of the morning routine with little ones everywhere-I completely relate.. and that morning coffee is so heavenly when this is the battle that awaits you come every morning. I don’t know about you, but I am quiet and can be a completely dismal non-morning person until I’ve had my pharmaceutical doses of caffeine.. I enjoyed this anthem to the complacent simple chaos of motherhood!!

A mighty hard reality! Lol, thank you, Robin!
Sometimes coffee can be the one thing to calm the chaos that comes with everyday life.
Especially when your Mom and you never really get the day off. I enjoyed the realness of this poem and the overall theme.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the review, David. It's always good to see a new face around here!
The morning rush, so well pictured here, is indeed a time that reminds us of our priorities and the fact that there are other things that must take precedence over ourselves. Frankly, sometimes its a pleasure, sometimes a pain. I love my kids though. Another great poem from you, Kelly.
