I was but a nipper and unfortunately for me too young to remember, but those California dreams somehow captured me, as it has done to so many since.
If you think of the beach boys you think of surf, sun and fun. Now how many bands can say their legacy is as good as that?
Ps... the idea of surfing gives me the fear, what with everything that lives down there wanting to eat us all. Stingy things, bitey things, swimming knives!!! But boy, what a soundtrack they have! 😃

Kelley,
There ought to be a word for those memories from the days when memories consist of more than what happened, more than who was there, more than its meaning, even. The me inside the late sixties when life was solar, surf and sand were spirit and soul that also carried a nameless zietgiest for which words don't work, no matter the soundtrack is an eternal epic.

Those were the days! I remember listening to those 45’s as well. Sad to see another musical icon leave us. Your tribute to him and the song are spot on! I am going to find it now and have a listen. You have become a true California Girl. :-)

I like, also, how you brought the Mamas and Papas into this.
I was 12 when the Beach Boys were cranking out their surf hits and car songs...
They were my favorite band until the Beatles, but they are still right up top of my list.
That melody was great. I also loved "In my Room."
this poem has him looking down, reading and smiling and appreciating the poet who wrote it.

The power of music echoes through our minds and souls and acts as punctuation marks in our history. I really enjoyed this one, my friend!
