Like John Imagined

Like John Imagined

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

like john imagined

i dare to dream

there’s coffee in heaven,

with a buffet line longer than

any road i have traveled down,

where a beacon of light shines brighter than

flecks of sunlight upon a vast ocean…

i dare to believe

there exists another realm of time

a spiritual place we transition to,

of God’s sovereignty

with no greed or hunger,

just a brotherhood of man.

like john the Apostle, prophesied

like john the Beatle, imagined.

I toast you, and this poem, with my coffee cup.

It's a fine dream.

Oh yeah Kelly, it’s there, it’s awaiting you, part of you never left it. Look me up when you arrive, we’ll have a cup of that coffee, sure to be wonderful. I love the way your mind works when you write. Even when contemplating the divine, you acknowledge the treasure of even ordinary things we have here, such as a cup of coffee. Walk in peace, Kelly. Wow, this is such a beautiful and heartfelt poem. I really felt the calm and hope in your words. The way you describe heaven, with coffee, light, and peace feels so warm and comforting. I especially loved the ending, how you connected both John the Apostle and John the beatle. It’s simple but deep, and makes you think about certain things.

Yes,John also had a reputation for being flippant, angry, selfish and other negative exhibitions of personality. But he did want peace...I believe that with all my heart...I lived through the Beatle years...and it seemed they often spoke of peace more than people from our own country.
I think the last two lines in this poem really bring it home. One john prophesied another imagined.
Reminds me of Robert Kennedy and as his brother Ted said during his service...Bobby saw things that were and asked why, he also saw things that never were and said why not.

First compliment I've received using this typeface. Thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated!
Such lovely thoughts penned here in fine writing Kelly. We live in times of conflict. So much death and yet your words here inspire. We are given hope that there is something else. Imagine ……..

My pleasure
there is a lot in that song "Imagine". A world that is actually possible to bring into being. And while we haven't as yet seen it, it is worth fighting for since the seeds of its existence are here already, even within this ugly world we live in. But John never invoked that baptist guy in his vision; he was challenging us to have imagination and to work for that world. His song was one of HOPE and DARING!!!!

And your poem Kelly, also gives us hope and daring to "IMAGINE"
