Oh Captain My Captain

Oh Captain My Captain

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Oh Captain My Captain

let’s tell the world

we’ve gone fishing

and set our sails toward

the end of the sky.

with utter abandon

my heart is vicariously beating

in haste with yours

as a Sauvignon, pours.

oh captain, my captain

can it be i am drowning

in the guise of your charms

in the pools of your eyes.

So charmed by the sense of abandon: adventure, desire, and vulnerability all woven into the imagery of sea and sail. And the final stanza lingers beautifully... romance tinged with danger, a surrender to both love and the unknown. STUNNING!

Superb image followed by superb words - nothing less than - for me,

'with utter abandon
my heart is vicariously beating
in haste with yours
as a Sauvignon, pours'

what a sensual, romping, unforgetable time to bathe in - forever..

My pleasure, I can but try!
I did not realize I was holding my breath after the fist stanza. What "pours" other than the wine are those verses flowing so softly from your heart. Indeed, the first stanza alone is a complete memory. Take a breath, come join my pool.

Can I bring my boat? Thank you, Charles! ; )
"Me and her's down here, fishin on the lake while they're looking for me in two or three states and she's been teaching me some special fishing skills..." Hank Williams Jr. from "Now I think I know how George Feels". I enjoyed this one. Fishing is fun but playing hooky is even more fun. ;)

Me thinks Kelly has been blown out to sea, the sea of love that is!!! Your romantic poems leave the reader wanting more and for the love created within the poem to be contagious, like a virus leaving the heart open to the possibilities of going "fishing... at the end of the sky". Each of us need and desire such an adventure.
Thank you Kelly,

Curt

You're too kind, Pete. Thank you!
It’s a soft, intoxicating drift like falling in love mid-voyage and not caring where the shore is.
