Philosophers

Philosophers

A Poem by Kate
"

Rewriting old stuff

"
Philosophers humble
In their robes
Confrontational
In their thoughts
Meandering are
Questioning five toes
The shape of the nose
And wings of butterflies
Demure but proud
They clamber a step ladder
To the metaphysical sky
Planting frowns
Between their brows
As they reflect on life
Philosophers in long robes
Sandal-shod or bare feet walk
Past market stalls
In blazing Greece
In a gentle ancient breeze
Where gladiators fight lions
A performance of grave trials
Unkempt but wise
They ponder matter and gods
And flip ideas like coins
Yet 'we know nothing'
The wisest quote
Concluding it all
Into one succinct note

this is an interesting satire on philosophers. they say so much then claim they know nothing. i get this irony. in my university, i befriended many philosophy majors (i studied anthropology) and while i cannot deny that they are intelligent and passionate, i always felt like they were missing something. as you said, 'Yet 'we know nothing' / The wisest quote / Concluding it all.'
