Long night

Long night

A Poem by Murungi Melvin
"

This poem expresses fear that sometimes we go through and blame our mind.

"
The clouds had poured down the rain,
And the chills outside my boys' quarters were at fever pitch,
Thunder rolled out and flashes of lightning lit the sky,
Surely making outside a place,
l never wanted to be,
That l could not be Jesus to carry my own cross to the grave.

So, like anyone would do,
l also retired to my cozy and comfortable bed,
The electricity was not there,
UEDCL had claimed its power,
Sleep being my agenda,
No serious harm had been done,
The darkness blended my desire.

The rain still drizzling and winds blowing,
Turned myself all directions in my bed,
But my eyes were still crystal clear,
No signs of taking a trip to Slumland,
Anytime soon.
My hope was left in looking through the dark,
Until sleep would steal me off.

The night had its own plans.
The wind became tense.
Yet whispers of things,
l could not tell,
Deep within.
Were they ghosts?
OR my mind pulling my leg.

Adrenaline started its mission,
My heartbeat fast,
Trembling in fear.
But fear was for the weak.
So false strength clothed me,
With my body sweating,
Were heat being not.
It is just the wind!
 l consoled myself.

Sound of singing birds,
Marked the long, unease night.
Did not sleep at all!
But a smile l dressed.
The night was long.
BUT l survived!

Think deeply about those times you feel sacred but, you keep yourself consoled and you are able to triumph the fear.
