log cabins can die

fallen

before these branches and their muffled grunts of disapproval

sleet to remind the shivering green of the overwhelming blank

breathe

the rise through pacing

fierce behind its imaginary eyes

uncharacteristically flaring

but its evident there are no neighbors

so they stand and fight alone

even after they’ve
