The Great Fall

I was not prepared for what was to happen that day. Life is full of surprises but even more regrets. If I had the slightest glimpse of the inevitable ending. I would never have taken the fall.

I could see the names on the list. 

As all around I paced the space

In a room full of unfamiliar faces.

They held their tongues - 

The sudden silence before the disaster.

I took my place behind the desk

And with each name I called to stand

One by one they came in place;

Like captives being caged, or

Hostages being exchanged.
