Remark, Retort, DebateA Poem by KiwiA poem loosely based on those activities so commonly found on the 'web.I wrote this for BCD '06 (a writing marathon) because I wanted to try a random acrostic. And then I thought, hey, I'll throw in alliteration! And I was fighting about it in my head. Jokingly, I jotted down "REMARK" and turned it into an acrostic poem that, when the word definitions were taken in their broader meanings, loosely fit my idea of the concept of 'remark.' The rest came the way I picture arguments occuring--a remark, a retort, and a debate. It worked well enough for me. Then I provided a reasonably terrible translation that didn't quite capture what I had in the original but that's OK, I gave it a shot.

Remarking relayed; Eternally equal To torment Of oration; Relaying rich, Tenacious tranquilities to trumping. Deliciously detonating Easily elaborated Barriers, bemused At alternative Times towards Engaging esteem. Translation: Indirect argument Starting enthusiastically; Noting manners Not present; Withdrawn righteousness Killing important points. (Remark) Commenting passed, Always equal To teasing Of self-important speech; Offering rich, Determined calmness to defeat. (Retort) Enjoyably exploding Notably built-up Limits, bewildered At alternate Times towards Activating respect. (Debate) © 2008 Kiwi |
