A Dear Friend

Friends are important. Don't let them go.

Every time we let someone in our life,

There is this certain risk that we take:

The chance that we’ll get hurt once again.

But it's all for an ally for all the good times

When we laugh at the jokes that we make

Adding to the joy sharing it with a dear friend.

It's also all for an ally for all the bad times

To be there for each other, when either breaks

When what we really need most, is a helping hand

°~*~°

Yet, the more we open up to that girl or guy

The higher the risk as well as the stakes

And sometimes we lose and get broken in the end.

But not every friendship has to be a lie

And not all friends are foes, false and fake

So sometimes we win, too, and gain a great friend

Author's Note

It's probably a bit crappy, but, bear with me, it's 3:15am.
Since I was inspired by an incident that involves 3 people, I'd like to dedicate this to all of them, but I will not name them and I guess only one of them would know who they are.
I wanted to try a different rhyme scheme for once.

I really like the message of this poem because I think that once someone has took that risk which you are refering to and they have been hurt it is hard for them to let people in their lifes because they are afraid of experiencing that pain and betrayal...but as you conclude in your last stanza "not every friendship has to be a lie" and by putting up a wall we could be missing out on a great friendship. Another great poem!

A very truthful message about opening yourself up to someone, always a risk, but if you never take a risk then you may never find that certain someone who brings solace when in need. Great poem.

A very true and nice poem. It is true that "the more that we open up to that girl or guy the higher are the stakes are and sometimes we lose and get broken in the end," but most often the greater the risk the greater the benefits and the closer you are to something spectacular, truly special, and unique. The only time we truly lose is when we don't get anything from it and we don't learn from our misfortunes and situations that turned out not be what we had hoped. Don't be afraid to fall it is how we grow and thrive in this world. We can survive the struggles and become stronger. Getting hurt is inevitable because of the imperfect world that we live in full of imperfect people like us, so embrace the challenges and let them sculpt you into a better, wiser, human being, and increasing in understanding. We all have so much to learn. This is not crappy its very good. Sorry for my rambling :]
