The Green Ribbon BandA Poem by NathSome symbolism there. The moon shines down on barren lands Where a bare-branched black tree stands Deep-rooted in the frozen desert sand Caught on one leafless bough is a ribbon band.
It flutters fighting the blowing breeze That rattles the branches of the tree But weakens while the winds increase Stuck in a storm that doesn’t ever cease.
The unleashed gusts tear the last bit of green From the gnarly branch of the nevergreen tree The storm strips the strip from a plant nearly dead Taking fibre for fibre, down to the last thread.
But the brittle band still clings to the bough Of the tree without a leaf left to adorn its crown To add some green to where there is none That is the reason why the ribbon hangs on. © 2011 NathAuthor's Note
